The course is intended for parents, habilitators, paraprofessionals of autistic children, and undergraduate students, or anyone interested in learning about Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methods.
Goals
This course will introduce you to applied behavior analysis, especially as it applies to individuals with autism. You will learn about basic concepts and principles, as well as specific teaching and intervention procedures. During the course, you will discuss a variety of topics including basic behavioral principles involving stimulus control, methods of teaching new behaviors, using effective reinforcement, techniques for decreasing undesirable or challenging behaviors, data collection, and teaching language and communication skills. This course will provide both a basic understanding of methods of behavioral change and an appreciation of how these methods are used to help teach children with autism.
Instructor
Amy Kenzer, Ph.D. in Behavior Analysis and Board- Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Dr. Kenzer has taught ABA courses at University of Nevada-Reno. Currently she is a Research and Development Manager at the Center of Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) and has 10-years experience in ABA therapy with children with autism.
